Creating Woodlands within the Community

About Daviot Community Trust

Company No: SC347285
Charity No: SC041081

Daviot Community Trust was incorporated in 2009 and was established to take community ownership of approx 22 acres of land/ woodland in terms of a Section 75 Agreement between Edinmore Developments Ltd and Aberdeenshire Council.

Following a professional feasibility study by a Business Consultant and a “Woodland Options” survey by a Chartered Forester, many of the recommendations in the reports have been executed, mainly by village volunteers, led by the directors. The main achievements have been the creation of an extensive path network which received a Paths for All national award, planting of 600+ trees, supplied by Woodland Trust and a number of other improvements to the land and woodland to improve the bio-diversity and accessibility for all to enjoy either recreationally or educationally.

Chris Smith memorial

Following the sad loss earlier this year of Chris Smith one of the "Davit Lads", his widow Lindsay Smith together with some of his former Daviot friends approached the Daviot Community Trust with a view to creating a lasting Memorial to Chris in the area where he grew up and initially got his running ‘bug’. The board were in full agreement and, after viewing the Trust lands, Lindsay felt that something in the area of the now rather dilapidated Pump House would be appropriate.
Memorial’ fundraising site set up by Barry O’Sullivan on Go Fund Me.

Chestnut Walk

Following a successful application for funding , work began on the path drainage. Once started, we soon realized that more drainage was required than originally anticipated. Having repaired one of the old field drains, we then installed a new drain along approx 200m of the path route.

The Map indicates all the paths around both the Trust land and longer walks taking in both the village and the House of Daviot Estate.
Waste Bins are located at two of the entrances to the walks and a small parking area is available when entering from the Village.

Chestnut Walk

Chestnut Walk will be a new development for 2019. We have already cleared all the undergrowth from the route but will need a lot of drainage work before we can start the work of building the path. Hopefully if we can gain funding for the project it will become part of the path network later this year.

Daviot Biathlon

The Biathlon was part of the Daviot Gala events. Open to Children Teens and adults, Competitors cycled a track laid out around the paths and grounds of the Community Trust, and for Adults a run following the paths around both Daviot Village and Daviot Estate. Great fun was had by all. It's set to be a regular event so get ready for 2019!

Daviot Water Park!

This Year we've been tidying the area around the burn and pump house. Having addressed some of the water flow issues, our future plans are to make this area much more of a feature, with perhaps a larger pond, planting, seating and maybe even a deck.
